Hiya loves! The summer is officially over (words cannot express how sad this makes me), which means one thing – it’s time for me to ditch my beloved bright lip colors and to dive into more neutral, nude shades. This is something I do every year, not because I go that much with the trends or anything but because this just makes me excited for the colder, festive months and kind of puts me in the mood. With that said, I decided to go and buy me some darker shades and I picked up this Apocalips Lip Lacquer from Rimmel in Celestial.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of the Rimmel Apocalips, basically they are lip lacquers. This means their formula is right between lipstick and lipgloss, almost like a liquid lipstick if you will. They have the pigmentation of lipstick but they go on smoothly like lipgloss. The lacquers have semi-matt finish but are designed not to dry out the lips as a lipstick would and they actually feel hydrating due to their build-in moisture. I really like how comfortable and soft they feel on the lips, which is rare for me as I suffer from dry lips a lot and it’s hard for me to find moisturizing products that differ from lip balm! Another reason why I am a massive fan of this range is because the products are ridiculously opaque and their staying power is fab! You need the tiniest amount of product to cover your entire lips and they have doe-foot applicator, which makes the application process quite easy. Just have in mind that the color pay-off is really strong and you need to use a mirror and with some of the brighter shades from the range a brush may be essential, especially if you’re new to such products. The Apocalips stay on me for at least 6 hours and the cool thing is that even when the glossy film wears off you still have a beautiful tint of color on. Ah also, the lacquers are completely sticky-free as well, which is a huge, huge bonus for me! :)

The shade I picked up recently is called Celestial and it is a nice pinkish-brown color. When I apply it initially it looks brighter but when the lacquer is fully dry it shows up as a dusty pink with strong brownish tones to it. As much as I wanted to love this shade, sadly I have to say that it doesn’t look good on me. At all. I am quite fair and I have cool-tones to my skin and this just makes me look so dull and almost dirty. Yuck! It is such a beautiful color but I just can’t pull it off. :( However, I believe that if you have darker / warmer skin tone this will look absolutely gorgeous on you, so definitely go swatch it if you fancy such muted pinks. If you are a fellow pale skinned gal though, here you can see my review and swatches on some other shades from the Apocalips, which are sure to compliment you beautifully.

Overall, I absolutely adore the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers as they have such a unique formula that basically get the best of both worlds and are like liquid, moisturizing lipsticks. They have outrageous pigmentation, stay on for ages and never feel sticky. Winners, without a doubt! However, Celestial turned out to be not flattering on me at all but please don’t let my personal preference talk you out of trying / swatching this shade, it is really beautiful. <3

Have you tried any of the Rimmel Apocalips? Which is your favorite shade of the bunch?

Lots of love,

  7. I still havent tried these. I've heard mixed things about them. Some girls love them others hate them! To be fair I already own far too many lip products to justify buying another one! I'll just have to keep reading reviews until i make my mind up! haha

  8. I have such a mixed opinion on these. They ARE very pigmented, look amazing and whatever but I feel like they smudge so easily and I don't like how they feel. I love them for my photography, but wouldnt wear them on a night out probably!

  19. I own Celestial as well and I'm glad it suits me really well. I think it is just the perfect colour if you want something on the lips, but not too much drama and not nude. Pity it doesn't work for you :(
About the moisturising effect, the only colour I've thoroughly tried so far is Across the Universe, that dark berry red, and I have to say, I actually found it really drying! Hopefully the others won't live up to that experience...
