Hello beauties! Recently I was scribbling down some new blog post ideas when it hit me – I haven’t done a Disappointing Products type of post yet. I bang on about my favorite products all the time but unfortunately not everything I buy I like. Even though I always make sure I’ve done my research before going and getting a product, there still are occasions when I end up utterly disappointed by it. So that’s what I’m going to do today –showing you some beauty bits that definitely didn’t work for me and which I think you may want to research a bit more before deciding whether you should buy them or not.
Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation
Here it is – starting off with the product that not only disappointed me massively but the product that completely messed up my skin and which I hate to my stomach – the Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation (here). I bought it in September and I was oh-so-excited to try it and initially I loved it. The coverage is absolutely amazing – full coverage, which looks natural and not as if you’re wearing makeup. The finish of Silk Crème is also fantastic and it is the perfect mixture of matte and dewy. The foundation makes the skin luminous without looking shiny or greasy and just makes it look beautiful, healthy and airbrushed. My skin has never looked better and I was all about Silk Crème. Until a week later. I noticed a lot of black and (mainly) white heads all over my face but I didn’t think the foundation has anything to do with it. I continued using it and by the end of week two my skin had gotten SO bad that I honestly couldn’t get outside of the apartment or look myself in the mirror. My skin was red, inflamed, terribly breaking out and the horrendous cysts hurt so badly that I could not move the muscles on my face. For someone who has never had skin problems before, this reaction was a huge shock and even though I immediately stopped using Silk Crème my skin needed some good three months to go back to normal. I still have some minor acne scaring left on my cheeks etc. so what can I say – Silk Crème has officially made it to the top of my black list and even though I know it works wonders for some, I wouldn’t even recommend it to my worst enemy. Hate. It.
MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick in Supreme Style
The next product in my don’t-recommend-it list definitely needs to be this MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick in Supreme Style (here). Over Christmas I bought two of these - one for my mum and one for my aunt and they both got a terrible reaction from it. Their lips got scary swollen and there were weird dry patches all over them and took ages to recover. I decided to try the lipstick myself, regardless of their terrible experience and luckily it didn’t react that bad on me but it was still rather hideous. The lipstick made my lips super super dry and an hour later they were SO dry and flakey that they hurt massively. I was honestly shocked since we are talking about MAC here and we all know that their products are usually amazing quality. I’ve also read some reviews online and found people with similar reaction, so I’m guessing that some of the ingredients are not suitable for everyone unfortunately. The lipstick itself is a really lovely soft beige-y pink with nice shimmery finish. It applies effortlessly and buttery, but as I said - it gets pretty bad once it sets and the consequences are ridiculous. Not my cup of tea and from now on I’ll stick to the regular MAC lipstick range.
OPI Suzi’s Hungary Again!
It’s rare for me to find a nail polish which is so terrible that I couldn’t be bothered to even finish applying it, but well done OPI – you’ve disappointed me so much that I had to include your Suzi’s Hungary Again (here) in this post. When my boyfriend gave me this beauty I immediately fell in love with the shade. The stunning warm medium pink is perfect for the warmer seasons and the subtle shimmer running through it captured my heart in no time. However, I was too quick to call the polish my newest best friend. The formula of the lacquer is downright horrible! I tried to sit down and apply it twice but it was such a nightmare to use that I ended up wiping the polish off and using another color. Suzi’s Hungary Again (love the name btw haha) has such thin consistency that you not only need at least four coats to get it opaque but it also streaks like crazy! To make the color even you also need to work with very light hand, otherwise you’ll be left with bold patches everywhere. The varnish is super watery and leaks all over your cuticles as well. Not a cute look! I definitely wouldn’t recommend this polish to anyone - the formula is a pain and the color is nothing that unique so I’m giving it a miss.
Have you ever tried some of these products? What do you think of them?
Lots of love,
