Wait what? Another nail polish review, but something’s different? Yes that’s right, I betrayed my love for Essie and decided to go out of my nail lacquer comfort zone and experiment. That’s what good beauty bloggers do, I’ve been told haha. Say hello to the new addition to my nail polish family – the Revlon Perfumerie in Ginger Melon (here). This beauty caught my eye last week and after a minute of drooling over the gorgeous luxurious and chic packaging I decided to give it a little whirl. To be honest I wasn’t massively impressed by the other shades of the range, there is just too much metallic for my liking. Ginger Melon, however, is a breath of fresh air with its lovely pinkish coral shade. It’s not anything that special but it’s still rather beautiful and the ideal tips and toes summer companion. It has gorgeous hi-shine finish with no shimmer or glitter. So far so good.

So yay or nay? Surely the shade is stunning and the scented nail polish concept is rather cool but my final verdict would sadly have to be a total no-no. Ginger Melon has a strong sweet tropical / peachy smell when it dries and when I say strong I mean it. Now I do have a sensitive nose but usually don’t have problem with scented products but this one literally made me feel sick. I had to remove the polish two hours after the application, as the smell was just too much. My head was hurting badly and I was feeling nauseous. I never thought I’d feel so happy about inhaling nail polish remover haha (yuck I know, so imagine). Apart from the too strong scent, the polish has an okay formula. The brush is too tiny for my taste but it applies evenly and the polish goes on opaque and I only need two thin coats. I obviously can’t comment on the staying power but judging from other reviews it is decent and wears for about four days without chipping. I wish I was able to enjoy the beautiful shade of Ginger Melon but due to the strong scent I can’t see us becoming best friends any time soon.

Have you tried the Revlon Perfumerie range yet? How do you find the scent?

Lots of love,

  1. I will certainly give these a try to see if the scent is too strong for me as well. I love the bottles these polishes come in so either way it'll be nice to try. thanks for sharing your through review! xx. gigi. www.gigikkitchen.com

  2. I love the bottles! Such a shame about it though. The brush does look quite tiny!

  3. Ooh, I'm sorry that the smell was too much for you! The ones that I have tried so far were actually really pleasant especially Apricot Nectar, African Tea Rose, and Pink Pineapple and they smelled true to their name. I actually love the ones I have picked up and would want a couple more of the colors/scents since I like how they apply too. They weren't too expensive at all for me and the packaging is adorable.

  7. Christ the scent sounds way too offputting for me to try this, as nice as it looks. I've not been too interesting in this range either, the shades are just so metallicy which I don't get at all, and I'm all for getting rid of the horrible smell of nail polish but don't replace it with something even more strong and lingering xx thanks for sharing

  8. I think the idea behind these Revlon scented polishes is great and the bottles are so cute but I agree, they are kind of a novelty. I've been surprised just how strong the scents are!

  11. I cannot stand strong scents in nail polishes. You should try lioele polishes. They are scented, but not as strong.

  12. That's such a shame that it's not a very good nail polish! I was tempted to try these but don't think I'll bother. Especially as the colour range isn't great either.

  14. I don't really get the whole scented nail polish kind of thing.. But the packaging is beautiful! :)

The brush do look a little small, I'm loving the brushes from Essie (doh) and L'oreal Color Riche a the moment! <3

Great review - and pictures as always, lovely!

  15. I have one in China Flower, the colour and formula are great but yeah I wasn't a big fan of the scent. It didn't make me feel nauseous but I know some scents can give me a real headache! Shame to hear that was the case with this one.

  17. I've been curious about these polishes but am yet to pick any up. I'm kind of glad now, the strong smell doesn't sound like fun, and I really hate nail polishes with small brushes. This colour is really pretty so it's shame about the smell.

  18. This color does look phenomenal but I'm sure there're loads of other brands that create the same shade. I always thought the scent part is quite silly and extra, glad you confirmed my concern.
