Wait what? Another nail polish review, but something’s different? Yes that’s right, I betrayed my love for Essie and decided to go out of my nail lacquer comfort zone and experiment. That’s what good beauty bloggers do, I’ve been told haha. Say hello to the new addition to my nail polish family – the Revlon Perfumerie in Ginger Melon (here). This beauty caught my eye last week and after a minute of drooling over the gorgeous luxurious and chic packaging I decided to give it a little whirl. To be honest I wasn’t massively impressed by the other shades of the range, there is just too much metallic for my liking. Ginger Melon, however, is a breath of fresh air with its lovely pinkish coral shade. It’s not anything that special but it’s still rather beautiful and the ideal tips and toes summer companion. It has gorgeous hi-shine finish with no shimmer or glitter. So far so good.
So yay or nay? Surely the shade is stunning and the scented nail polish concept is rather cool but my final verdict would sadly have to be a total no-no. Ginger Melon has a strong sweet tropical / peachy smell when it dries and when I say strong I mean it. Now I do have a sensitive nose but usually don’t have problem with scented products but this one literally made me feel sick. I had to remove the polish two hours after the application, as the smell was just too much. My head was hurting badly and I was feeling nauseous. I never thought I’d feel so happy about inhaling nail polish remover haha (yuck I know, so imagine). Apart from the too strong scent, the polish has an okay formula. The brush is too tiny for my taste but it applies evenly and the polish goes on opaque and I only need two thin coats. I obviously can’t comment on the staying power but judging from other reviews it is decent and wears for about four days without chipping. I wish I was able to enjoy the beautiful shade of Ginger Melon but due to the strong scent I can’t see us becoming best friends any time soon.
Have you tried the Revlon Perfumerie range yet? How do you find the scent?
