I do love a good bright and colorful mani but I must admit that muted nail shades and I have been having a love affair for quite some time now. The A/W season has always been my favorite time of the year to sport the darker colors of the palette and slap on more subtle and neutral shades. They are classy, easily compliment any outfit and effortlessly add to the whole ‘colder weather’ feel of the season. I’ve recently rummaged through my nail varnish stash, trying to pick my top 5 polishes and here is the aftermath. We have a vast array of colors and finishes in the mix, so let’s get started, shall we?
Nails Inc. in Basil Street (here)
Nude nail polish is not something that’s on my everyday nail polish menu, but strictly following the ‘when in doubt go for nude’ rule, I like to have a good bare-nails polish on hand. This season’s nude lacquer of choice is the oh-so-beautiful Nail Inc. in ‘Basil Street’. Its warm light beige-y shade, described as ‘pale soft toffee’ really tickles my fancy and I love how sophisticated and clean it looks on. It goes perfectly with everything and anything and never fails to help me look polished and put together. It’s a bit thinner in consistency and goes opaque in two or three coats but it dries quickly, so no faff at all. It stays put for good four days and the stunning cream finish is my favorite part.
Essie Bahama Mama (here)
My all-time favorite A/W nail shade is undoubtedly from the gorgeous wine red / berry color palette. These types of colors always look so chic and classy and compliment all skin types beautifully. The nail varnish that has been glued to my tips for second year in a row comes from Essie with their stunning ‘Bahama Mama’. Deep plum berry cream shade that screams mulled wine and it is always en vogue? Yes please! Now the formula could be better and I am not a massive fan of the watery consistency but it gets the job done and it’s not a deal breaker, thankfully. Full review and swatches here.
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Plum Luck (here)
Vampy lips and vampy tips are a must-have for me during the fall and winter, and the dark polish that has been gracing my nails is this hauntingly beautiful Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in ‘Plum Luck’. Its almost-black but still plumy shade is uber unique and beautiful and such a staple in my collection. It’s the most gorgeous purple I’ve laid my eyes on and I love how it makes me feel edgy but feminine at the same time. As with the previous two beauts, Plum Luck it’s a bit too runny for my liking and you do need a few coats. The two-day longevity is not ideal either but I can’t help it – I am willing to overlook the drawbacks just so that I can admire the shade in all its glory! Review here.
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Watermelon (here)
Now for a week worth of a perfect chip-free mani that literally takes seconds to apply, I have a very special offering coming from Barry M. I am talking about the stunning ‘Watermelon’ shade from their Gelly Hi-Shine range. I’ve banged on about this baby on a several occasions and you probably know the drill by now. Beautiful glossy finish? Check. Unique dark teal shade that always gets tons of compliments? Check. Brilliant formula that’s opaque and super long-lasting? Double check. Review here.
Essie Cashmere Bathrobe (here)
Last but not least I had to talk about my newly rekindles obsession with shimmery polishes and introduce you to the beautiful Essie ‘Cashmere Bathrobe’. It has everything on my wintery nail polish checklist sorted – adorable name, subtle crystal shimmer and fab deep shade. I adore the beautiful blend of shimmer, black and gray – it makes the polish so sophisticated and perfect for any A/W event. Plus, the lovely sparkle that’s going on is the perfect Christmas attire, am I right? The formula of this gem is on point, starting from the lovely brush, going through the high opaqueness and ending with the impressive 5+-day longevity. It’s love.
