Every now and again a popular beauty company launches a new, innovative product and the whole beauty community goes mental. Everyone and their dog blog about it and it’s fast selling out in all stores when you desperately want to get your hands on it because you just have to see what the hype is all about. That was the case with the St. Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan (here). My Bloglovin and Instargram feeds have been flooded with pictures of the item in question and I was desperate to try it. After multiple unsuccessful trips to the drugstore I was finally given it as a present for my birthday last week and I literally squealed when I opened the bag. After having my fare share of applications I am finally ready to report back and tell you if this beauty is worth all the hype it’s had over the past few weeks…
I’d like to start by saying that I am a total self-tan amateur and I lost my St. Tropez virginity with this very product. Needless to say – my expectations were sky high. Plus, the In Shower Tan does sound rather fab indeed. I love the innovative concept behind it. I mean – who wouldn’t? All you need to do is apply the super creamy lotion to cleansed, wet skin, wait for 3 minutes and just rinse everything off. In a few hours, you are supposed to get natural-looking sun kissed bronze glow with no streaking or transferring to clothes involved. It’s super speedy, easy and completely foolproof to use. Brilliant. Also, the sweet almond oil that the lotion is enriched with, feels really luxurious and pampering on the skin and it is left feeling beautifully moisturized and nourished. I literally cannot stop stroking my skin after I get out the shower – it’s dreamy. Plus, the lotion doesn’t have the typical fake-tan scent and honestly smells divine. It all sounds too good to be true right? Well, that’s because it actually is.
The St. Tropez In Shower Tan did sound a bit gimmick-y at first but after reading so many fab reviews about it I was convinced that it would actually work. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to love it, it just did not work for me. I love love love the way it makes my skin feel but that’s pretty much it. Tan wise, it did nothing. I repeat nothing. I’ve used it over ten consecutive times (yes, some days I used it both in the morning and at night – I was desperate for results haha) and I have noticed zero difference in the color of my skin. Before I used it for the first time I exfoliated properly, so I had no trace of fake tan on and let me just tell you – I am naturally rather pale, so for me not to notice any difference is just ridiculous. The In Shower Tan is also supposed to work on people with all skin tones and to ‘gradually build an intense tan’, which was definitely not the case for me. I obviously cannot comment on the streaking part, as you need to at least have some sort of color on in order to notice unevenness.
Another thing I am not crazy about this product is the fact that you have to apply it on wet skin and turn the shower off. So you are basically left in the bathroom butt naked and freezing, waiting for those three minutes to past, which trust me – it’s not the most comfortable position to be in. You can always treat yourself to a hair mask or something but it’s still for from ideal. I would’ve gladly overlooked the freezing part if the product worked though but that’s sadly not the case for me. Another thing worth mentioning is that I find that the In Shower Tan runs out way too quickly and my bottle is now completely empty. After just ten uses – no impressed. As you can probably imagine this product is definitely a ‘no no’ for me and it won’t be joining my everyday shower essentials any time soon.
Have you tried the St. Tropez Gradual In Shower Tan? How do you like it?
Lots of love,
