Models Own Magpie Nail Polish Swatches

So Easter is right around the corner. What?! I swear it feels just like yesterday when I put my Christmas tree down… Time flies and this year I am just not feeling the Easter mood. I still have got some time to feel festive though, so yesterday I decided that taking some actions was in order. And what would any nail polish obsessed beauty blogger do? Well… paint their nails of course, so that’s what I did.

I rummaged through my stash and there it was waving at me – the perfect Easter nail polish! Meet the oh-so-cute Models Own Magpie (here). This little mini egg-resembling gem instantly caught my heart when I first bought it a few months back with its lovely fresh and happy vibe. It’s pastel, yet it’s bright and the gorgeous minty / turquoise shade is just ideal for spring and summer. I absolutely adore the little egg shell speckles running through the polish and if you are fan of the Illamasqua Speckle offerings (here) then you really need to check out Magpie and the rest of the Models Own Speckled Egg collection (currently on offer here) – the shades are much more vibrant and they are literally a fraction of the price. Magpie is hands down my favorite of the bunch. I am a sucker for mint tips, plus I find it really wearable and it’s definitely one of those ‘suit all skin tones’ colors. Love.

Models Own can do no wrong formula wise, we all know that, and I am happy to report that Magpie is definitely no exception. The formula rocks. You need just two thin coats to get that 3D effect speckled polishes are all about and fear not – Magpie dries super fast, so you don’t have to wait ages. The varnish goes on smooth, dispersing all the right amount of speckles and somehow manages to place them evenly across the nail, which gets massive thumbs up. I’ve said that before and I’ll say it again – I am not fond of the tiny brush Models Own polishes come with but it gets the job done without streaking or messing the cuticles, so it’s all good. Magpie wears beautifully for solid five days with no chipping or tip wear, which is one of the reasons I am head over heels in love with it – it’s perfect. So now my Easter mood is finally headed to the right direction and I know what will make it even better - I hear that Duck from the Speckle Egg collection is a good’un as well! Off to my favorite Models Own counter in 3…2…1…

Have you tried Models Own Magpie before? Which shade from the collection would you like to get your mitts on this season?

Lots of love,
Andrea

How To: Create The Illusion Of Bigger Lips

I have always been fond of the look of bigger and fuller lips on myself but every time the thought of getting lip injections crosses my mind I chicken out and just stick to the temporary magic that makeup does. I tend to embrace what mama naturally gave me on most days but when I fancy channeling my inner Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (those lips tho!!) I usually follow some the techniques below (or all of them at once if I’m feeling extra brave). They’ve all been tried and tested and trust me - the results are seriously “wow!”-worthy. Let’s discuss…

Prep
Prepping your lips is always a good idea but it’s extra important if you’re going to have a little play around and want to make them look extra plump. The reason is twofold. Firstly, you want to create a soft and smooth surface for your products to go on to – chapped lips are a big no-no. Secondly, by exfoliating you get blood flow to your lips and the slight irritation makes them look a bit swollen (in a good way) and poutier as well. You can read all about my lip exfoliation remedies here but basically all you need is a good scrub like the ones Lush do (here) or just a toothbrush to help you get rid of the dry flakes. Once that’s done pop some lip balm on to help soften the lips. Voila – now onto the next step…

Lip Plumper
This is totally optional but I feel like it makes such a difference, so I always incorporate it in my routine when I’m after the fuller lip look. If you are not a lip plumper fan you can always go for something like FullLips (here) or use the cinnamon trick. If you’re not familiar with it, basically all you need to do is just apply one drop of cinnamon leaf oil on your lips (or mix some Vaseline with cinnamon extract), leave it on for a couple of minutes and wipe it away with a wash cloth. This is the best non-makeup lip plumping technique I’ve tried and it really works wonders. If you fancy going for the heavy-duty makeup option though, this City Lips Advanced Formula Lip Plumper* (here) just rocks. It enhances your lip line and adds fullness naturally in less than five minutes and I adore the results. It is one of the few lip volumizers that I’ve tried that actually work and I love how this gem makes my lips so much juicier and bigger without the painful stinging. You can pop it under (or instead of) your lipstick and enjoy your transformed pout – love.

Lip Liner
Out of all techniques the quickest and easiest way to create the illusion of filler lips is without a doubt using lip liner. By just following the natural line of your lips and filling them in with a lip pencil they already look plumper, more defined and slightly bigger. If you want to make them look even fuller you can use two close shades of dark nude lip liners – a lighter and a deeper one. Apply the darker shade in the outer corners of the lips and then fill in the rest with the lighter and this will instantly enhance the lips and make them look larger. I adore the combination of MAC Soar (here) and Rimmel Exaggerate in Eastend Snob (here) – hello poutier lips! My favorite way to trick people into thinking that I have naturally fuller lips is to overdraw them Kylie Jenner-style. This could, however, be a bit tricky and I find that the foolproof way to do it is to go no further than the white highlighted line that is above the lip. Nikkie has a fab tutorial here that you can check out to see what I am talking about and see what the right way to overdraw is. I follow this rule on a daily basis and I love the au natural effect of bigger lips it gives.

Contouring
One of the easiest ways to create an instant illusion of fuller and juicier lips is to use the Holy Grail trio - lipgloss, highlighter & bronzer. All you need to do is apply your lip color as usual and then just pop some lipgloss in the center of your lips. This will bring the attention right to the center of the pout and will make it look plumper and bigger. You can use a clear gloss but I find that the ones that work the best at creating that 3D effect are the ones that have some fine golden shimmer particles running through. If you are not a lipgloss kinda gal you can also use lighter shade of lipstick, pearly eyeshadow, highlighter or even concealer – it’s up to you. Now that’s done take your favorite highlighter and run it gently on your cupids bow. This will make your upper lip look more pouty and fuller. Last but definitely not least, take your non-shimmery bronzer and place some in the little hollow that’s right under your lower lip. This will deepen up the shadow and instantly make your lips appear bigger and juicier – simples.

Okay, ladies these were all my tips and trick to making your lips look larger and I really hope you found this post helpful. Make sure to report back if you end up trying some of these techniques. Pucker up!

Lots of love,
Andrea

MAC Costa Chic Lipstick / A New Spring Favorite

MAC Costa Chic Lipstick

MAC Costa Chic Lipstick

MAC Costa Chic Lipstick Swatches

Oh hello there everyone! Long time no see. Without boring you with tons of details as to where I’ve been and why I haven’t blogged in over two weeks you can read all about it here if you fancy. The important thing, however, is that I am back to my regular blogging schedule and lots of exciting posts are coming your way very soon eep. Oh boy I missed this!! And what better way to be back than sharing a new lip favorite that I’ve been obsessing over for the past few weeks? Ladies and gentlemen, meet the ever-so-gorgeous MAC Costa Chic (here). There isn’t anything I love more that coral lipsticks in spring and this gem happens to be one of the most beautiful corals I’ve ever laid my eyes on. It’s a gorgeous super bright coral pink with a touch of golden shimmer and it just makes me happy.

Costa Chis is fun, vibrant and cheerful and basically the perfect companion for spring and summer. It is one of the brightest lippies in my collection but I find that it’s still perfect for both everyday wear and nights out. The reason I fell head over heels in love with this beauty is because of it’s skin brightening and complexion warming properties – so pretty. Costa Chic also makes me look tan and pairing it with black liner is a killer combo. As much as I adore the shade though, I am afraid it might not look particularly flattering on deeper skin tones as it’s a touch too bright.

MAC Costa Chic has frost finish and this is the very reason why it took me so long to cave and pick one up. Usually I steer clear of frosts because I find they tend to look a bit dated and unflattering. Raise your hand if you remember those frosty lipsticks our grandmothers used to sport when we were little – not a cute look. Luckily though, Costa Chic has really fine frosty bits and has more of a satin finish, which I like. With this gem preparation is key and you need to treat your lips to a nice scrub prior to applying the lipstick, otherwise it will go patchy and will settle into fine lines, which we don’t want. Apart from that Costa Chic has beautiful creamy formula that feels comfortable on the lips and hangs around for 3-4 hours. The pigmentation is spot on and one swipe is all you need to get full blown color – fab. So my final verdict? If you are a fellow coral lip lover you need to go give this beaut a swatch and see how you like the finish. I don’t have doubts about the shade – I am sure you will fall in love with that one.

Have you tried MAC Costa Chic? Which is your favorite coral lipstick?

Lots of love,
Andrea

Spring Beauty Picks

Spring 2015 Beauty Picks

Spring 2015 cheeks products

Spring eye makeup

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak and Chanel Rouge Allure in Melodieuse

Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint Cologne

Technically it might not be spring yet but who cares? I am way too excited about the warmer weather, cherry blossoms, pastels fashion pieces and mostly – the makeup changeup. Step aside vampy lips, it’s all about the brighter shades now and my faves have already taken front row in my makeup stash. Spring has officially sprung here in the RosyChicc household and things are looking colorful, cheerful and dreamy. Let’s discuss…

Bronzed skin and highlighted cheeks will be sported regularly this season, I can promise you that. I am all about the Sleek Contour Kit (here) at the moment and I just adore both the matte bronzer and the oh-so-stunning champagne-y highlight. The ‘not-orange-not-muddy-either’ bronzer that blends like a charm is everyone’s dream and the buttery soft formula just rocks. I like to use this bad bod on my eyelids for a swift wash of brown color (very in this season) as well. Love.

To add some color to my cheeks I think that the perfect spring blush companion would be the gorgeous Milani Luminoso (here / review). You know how I feel about it – it is basically like a heaven in a pan and it is easily my favorite drugstore blush. It has all the boxes ticked and it delivers beautifully on the color, highlight and formula fronts. It is the most ideal peachy pick-me up color and it instantly warms and livens up my complexion and takes me one step closer to the ‘bronzed goddess’ look I like to attempt during the warmer months. In my makeup bag it goes… If I’m opting for a pink look then this Revlon Highlighting Palette in Rose Glow (here) will be sure to grace my cheeks this spring. It could be used both and highlight or a lighter shade of pink-y blush and its easy to slap on formula makes it a firm favorite for those days when I am not feeling matte and fancy adding some glow (and a dab of shimmer) to my cheeks.

I am a neutral kinda gal but when springs rolls around I instantly feel more experimental with my color choices and this year I will seriously do my best at this pop of color on the eyes thing. My Inglot Rainbow Palette (here) is whipped out again  (yes, for a third year running) and I cannot wait to swipe those purples and mints across my lids or just place some in the inner corner of my eye. Colored eyeliner is a huge trend for Spring 2015 and I’ll attempt at it and hopefully not end up looking like an 11-year-old. To help me with that I have my trusty cheap-as-chips Essence eye pencils (here), which surprisingly have brilliant non-budging formula that glides on like a dream. Blue or green, sharp or smudged, I don’t know how things will go down but I am excited to incorporate some color in my life and I’ll keep you posted! And as much as I like the sound of colorful eyeliner, the good old black winged eyeliner will always be mah thing. I rarely leave the house eyeliner free and my favorite is this L’oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim (here). It’s super easy to control, completely foolproof and one swipe is all you need to get even, jet-black line that hangs around for hours. Go swatching ladies, it’s brilliant!

Gosh, I’ve missed my bright colorful lippy friends and I am so excited to sport the bold peaches and corals again! The two that already live in my makeup bag are the stunning Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak (here) and Chanel Rouge Allure in Melodieuse (here) You can read all about the UD offering here but both the buttery formula and the beautiful bright peachy coral are bloomin’ marvelous! Streak is uber moisturizing, pigmented, long lasting and the shade is just a people pleaser – it goes with nearly everything, suit all skin tones and gathers *multiple* compliments. Score. On days when I feel like rocking something extra bright and fun Chanel Melodieuse will be the one twisted up and swiped on. I love a good bright coral red lip and this gem is the most beaut one in my collection. The shade is quite rich and vivid but still wearable and I adore its soft satin finish. Review and swatches of Melodieuse are coming you way soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Fragrance wise, I wanted to opt for something floral and fresh and the Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint Cologne (here) is just ideal. It is quite a unique fragrance and it’s not anything like my typical spring sweet scents as it’s quite sharp but that’s exactly why I love spritzing it all over myself. The cologne is really clean and sophisticated and the jasmine notes mentally take me to those crisp spring early mornings in the garden, which I love.

The Post-Ski Trip Pamper

Post-Ski Trip Beauty Pamper

Post-Ski Trip Beauty Pamper

Post-Ski Trip Beauty Pamper

Post-Ski Trip Beauty Pamper

So going skiing is fun. But you know what’s not? Yep, the uber dry, lackluster skin that I took home with me. I definitely had a mini panic situation going on when I looked myself in my oh-so-favorite (not) magnifying mirror. The sight was scary enough to be featured in any horror movie, so actions needed to be taken asap. I rummaged through my stash, digging out all products that had ‘moisture’ written on them and a SOS-pamper was the plan for the night.

It’s not a proper pamper sesh without having a bath, am I right ladies? My sore muscles could definitely use a little soak and since I was in a mood for something uplifting and relaxing the Aromatherapy Associates Inner Strength Oil (here) was called to the reuse. I’ve accumulated quite a few minis of this divine product and I’ve been absolutely loving its calming and soothing properties. The beautiful spa-like vapors instantly distress and help fight both the physical and mental fatigue – love.  When it comes to aromatherapy mixed with the benefits of a fantastic skincare product you really can’t beat the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm (here). This not only smells heavenly and relaxes me on the spot but it also cleanses and moisturizes the skin beautifully, leaving it feel balanced, calm and silky soft, so on my face it went…

Shower done. Now it was time for the most excessive skincare session I’ve ever had but oh boy, did my skin feel incredible the morning after! First, to help brighten up and exfoliate my skin I applied the GlamGlow Youthmud Mask (here) all over my face and I was hoping for a miracle. And ten minutes later it happened – I swear my skin looked 10x more radiant and glowing, my pores were minimized and my complexion was even, toned and beautifully soft to the touch. This gem is my new best friend and a full size jar of it will be joining the family soon, it’s that good. In order to deeply moisturize and replenish my skin I decided to treat myself to a 10-minute mask and I used my beloved Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Moisturizing Cream Mask* (here / review). It didn’t fail to completely sort out those unflattering après-ski dry patches I was having on my cheeks and I love how luminous, smooth and hydrated my skin felt afterwards.

After I wiped off the mask with a damp cotton pad I went ahead and rubbed in a few drops of The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil (here / review) on my skin. It is my favorite budget-friendly skincare product and it just ticks all the boxes. It does a fab job at deeply moisturizing the skin and it’s perfect for all skin types and I especially love using it when my skin is lacking on the hydration front. The blend of all sorts of beneficial oils is the best treat for my skin and I like that the product absorbs instantly and feels really lightweight. To lock in the moisture I then went all over my face and neck with my Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream* (here). This is heavy-duty stuff and I only use it when my skin screams ‘dehydration’. It is quite a thick and rich cream, enriched with avocado pear oil, manuka honey and grapeseeds extract and it not only has antioxidant benefits but it also injects moisture like there is no tomorrow. My skin literally drank this stuff and it felt so hydrated, smooth and repaired the next morning. Mission accomplished - bye bye dull skin!

Now that my skincare was all slapped on, I needed to take care of my hands and upper body. My skin was extremely dry and almost chapped at places, so I slathered some of the Antipodes Jubiliation Hand & Body Cream* (here). Let’s admit it – this is not world’s most deliciously scented cream but the blend of super-fruit kiwi seed oil, feijoa and wild blackcurrant works a treat and it instantly calmed the redness, nourished the skin and made it look and feel decent again. And now it comes the fun part – painting my nails! Ski trip is done, March is upon us and that means one thing – it’s time to put all the dark nail shades away and embrace the brighter, more vibrant colors. And what better way to do so then paint my tips with one of the prettiest Essie shades I own? Mint Candy Apple (here / review) has ‘Spring’ written all over it and the gorgeous aqua blue / mint shade always makes me happy and excited for the warmer weather. Roll on spring!

Have you tried any of these products before? Which is your top favorite pampering product?

Ski Trip Beauty Essentials

Ski Trip Beauty Essentials

Hello everyone and Happy March 1st! It might be *almost* spring but I am currently away on a ski trip, exhausting myself to death on the slopes and loving every minute of it. Since this trip was quite the short notice (my boyfriend literally surprised me with it less than 24 hour before we took off) I didn’t have much time to think what to take with me, so I decided to play it safe and pack only a few of my fave beauty essentials that I knew will help me look half-decent for those après-ski fun activities. Let’s discuss…

If you are an avid winter sport lover, I’m sure you know how vital the post-ski skin hydration actually is. To help me inject some moisture back into my skin and make it look healthy and glowy again I like to slather on the Liz Earle Superskin Moisturizer* (here). It is a super rich cream but still feels super lightweight and absorbs instantly. It is really soothing and instantly plumps up the skin. This beauty looks gorgeous under foundation too, so I like to pair it with my latest love – the Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation* (here). I’ve raved about it here but it basically leaves the skin look luminous and radiant and adds moisture to it as well. The medium coverage is the very thing I need after skiing all day and the foundation manages to cover all redness and dark circles – love!

Since I like to keep things dewy I give the powder a miss and just gently dust some of my favorite Soap & Glory Solar Powder Bronzer (here / review) on my cheeks and up my temples to add some warmth and definition to my face. It is a dream to apply (even with my uncoordinated, shaky post-ski hands), blends beautifully and I even like to dab some on my lids to serve as eyeshadow. Love how quick and easy this step is but makes all the difference! Being on a winter holiday I’d always go for that ‘I just got back from the cold outside’ flush of color on my cheeks and this is where my trusty YSL Cream Blush in Baby Doll (here / review) comes in. This frosty light baby pink is blended just on the apples of my cheeks and it instantly livens up my complexion. The cream-to-powder formula of Baby Doll is spot on but just make sure you use a light hand because this is pigmented!

I cleverly forgot to include the Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara (here / review) in the picture but it’s been keeping me the best company on this little trip. I’ve been hitting the slopes with it on (yes, I am one of those people who don’t like leaving the house with bare lashes) and I am in love with its easy-to-remove water-resistant formula that does not budge and makes the hairs look long, thick and jet-black. After seven hours of skiing the last thing I have nerves for is to sit there and fill in my eyebrows like a pro. Nahh. Instead, I just rely on the Benefit Gimme Brow* (here / review) brow-volumising fibre gel to get the job done for me and I love how in two swipes my brows are thicker, fuller and beautifully shaped with no sparse areas in sight – simples.

Dry, chapped après-ski lips are unfortunately a thing and the only thing that helps me condition them is the NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Balm (here / review). It not only smells divine (honey anyone?) but its rich formula really soothes and moisturises the thirsty lips as well. This gem really restores and plumps them and I love how much softer they feel once the balm is absorbed. And here ladies and gentlemen is the moment you give me a reward for light packing: I left the house with one, I repeat one colored lip product and this will come as no surprise if you are a regular reader of RosyChicc but it is MAC Soar (here). I just had to channel my inner Kylie Jenner and Soar has been glued to my lips for the past few days. And you know what? I don’t miss my huge lipstick drawer back home – this sophisticated beauty is all I need and you can see it in action here.

We gotta paint those nails and I since greige (here) seems to be my nail shade of choice recently the Barry M Gelly Nail Polish in Almond (here) was packed. I love its beautiful blend of beige and gray and it looks so classy and feminine. Oh and the gel-like, long lasting formula really tickles my fancy and makes the polish the perfect ski-activity companion.

Have you tried any of these products? Which are your favorite après-ski pick-me-up products?

Lots of love,
Andrea
