Travel Makeup Bag: The Summer Holiday Edition

Travel Makeup Bag: The Summer Holiday Edition

So if everything goes to plan this time tomorrow I will be sipping Margaritas on the beach and oh boy am I excited! Palm trees, sun, salty hair and cocktails? Yes please! Since I can barely contain my excitement, plus I’m trying my best to up my organization skills at the moment, I decided to make a lil’ ‘to pack’ list so that I won’t end up forgetting my bathing suits again (true story). I still refuse to come to terms with the fact that I am not a light packer and decided to try and keep things as minimal as possible for this trip and the holiday makeup manu goes as follows…

A light makeup base with luminous finish is all I want when I’m headed to the seaside, which calls for Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (here). You aware of my feels for this foundation and I love everything about it from the lovely medium coverage to the healthy glow-y finish it adds. The travel-friendly packaging makes it even better choice for this trip, so in my makeup bag it goes! Concealer wise, I have packed two of my faves and they are in the form of Make Up For Ever Full Cover (here) and Rimmel Wake Me Up (here). The MUFE offering makes all spots nowhere to be found and the waterproof formula makes it that much more perfect for my summer holls. Wake Me Up on the other hand is the foolproof under eye concealer that brightens everything up in one go and I just cannot be without it. I do love my dewy base when I’m at the seaside but for times when I want to matte things down a bit the Chanel Poudre Universelle Compacte (here) is my best bet. It keeps the oils at bay but at the same time the light-reflecting pigments makes my complexion look radiant and natural. Love.

For my brows, I decided to take away my Beauty UK High Brow Eyebrow Kit* (here). I’ve been using the lighter shade recently and I love how nice of a match it is for my natural brow color. The shadow is pigmented enough and easy to apply and the wax is perfect for taming and shaping the brows. I am still trying to stomach the cheap packaging but I’m getting there…

Strobing and I have been having a moment recently and the Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette (here /review) is what’s been helping me get highlighted up. The golden shades are simply beautiful (swatches here) and I love how radiant and glowy they make my skin. They are not necessarily subtle but I can definitely use all the glow right now, plus I definitely favor having super luminous, sun-kissed skin when I’m at the seaside, so this baby is coming with me. If I still fancy adding some warmth to my complexion though, the Bourjois Delice de Soleil Bronzing Powder (here) is my bronzer of choice for this trip. It is a lovely blend of warm and cool tones and doesn’t make me look too muddy or orange. It doubles as contour for me and the amount of people complimenting me on my contouring says it all really. The powder is really fine, blends like a breeze and stays put for yonks. Golden Goddess look made easy right here, plus the cocoa scent is to die for! I haven’t been wearing much blush recently but I decided to be better safe than sorry, so the Top Shop Cream Blush in Flush (here / review) is already thrown in my makeup bag. This little pinky coral gem never fails to brighten up my complexion and enhance my skin and I love how flattering it is no matter how tan or pale I am. It just adds a nice hint of color and makes me look as if I’ve flushed naturally. The cream-to-powder formula is a total winner too and it not only blends easily but it also hangs around for hours. It really is a good’un.

I like to keep my eye shadows very minimal when I’m on summer holls and the Kiko Long Lasting Eyeshadow Sticks in #6 & #7 (here / review) will be my partners in crime this year. They are super easy to just slap on and head out the door and the waterproof formula is perfect for summer nights out and beach parties. They won’t slip and slide everywhere in the heat and the long-lasting, crease-proof formula is just marvelous. #6 Golden Brown is my favorite out of the two and it’s my trusty speedy smokey eye companion. I’ve been sporting #7 Golden Beige as a base for the Too Faced Copper Peony eyeshadow (here), which I’ve been absolutely loving lately. It’s been gracing my lids for the past two months and the stunning copper shadow compliments my green eyes beautifully and enhances my tan. The buttery soft formula and metallic finish are downright amazing and I just can’t leave without this beauty packed in my suitcase!

After making my lashes rather happy on my last year’s beach holiday, I decided to take the Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascaras (here / review) again with me this year. It is water-resistant, separates well and gives my lashes incredible lengths in just one swipe. I love the jet-black color of the mascara and it doesn’t clump or smudge. Skinny Brush is not my usual everyday mascara of choice but amongst all water resistant ones I have lying around it’s definitely proven to get the job done well and I’m not complaining.

I will probably have a last-minute lipstick panic and throw all the lippies in my bag but for now I managed to narrow down my lip choices to three. Two brights and one nude. The nude option will come as no surprise if you’ve been reading my blog for a while and it comes in the form of Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk (here / review). Muted pinky nude that makes my lips look bigger and fuller? Check. Velvety soft and not drying? Check. Waterproof? Check. Super long-lasting? Double check. In my makeup bag t goes then… For my brighter option we have the YSL Rouge Volupte in #11 Rose Culte (here / review), which I love for its bright fuchsia shade. It is really feminine and elegant on the lips and the balmy texture is ideal for the hot weather. The Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Melodieuse (here / review) is definitely a summer 2015 staple for me and I cannot leave without it. Its bright coral pink shade screams ‘summertime fun’ for me and I love it for times when I’m going for a more classic look. It has that retro chic vibe that I love and the luxurious click packaging just makes me feel extra sophisticated. It feels really balmy and hydrating on the lips as well and I am simply in love with its juicy finish.

July Favorites

beauty favorites

Oh boy, I don’t even remember when the last time I did one of those was… It’s been a good while; let’s just say that. Now that I have finally gained my blogging mojo back though, I decided it’s time I did the most ‘bloggery’ thing of all and talk about my monthly faves. July did treat me rather well beauty wise, I must admit, so here is a little roundup of everything I’ve been loving for the past four weeks…

I think it’s safe to say that I found a new favorite skincare combo. I’ve been using the Lancôme Advanced Genifique Concentrate* (here) in conjunction with the Dr. Jart+ Water-Sure Gel* (here) every morning during the month and I absolutely love the results! I can’t quite comment on the anti-ageing benefits of the Lancôme Concentrate just yet but what I can tell you is that it brightens up my complexion beautifully and evens out my skin tone. It feels hydrating on the skin and makes it really soft and smooth. The Dr. Jart+ moisturizer is just the perfect follow-up product and I love how lightweight it feels on the skin. It hydrates and sinks in fast, which definitely makes it the perfect product to use under foundation. The gel also manages to plump up my skin and I love how radiant and healthy it looks as well. Morning skincare duo winner right here!

I’ve been really into luminous skin this past few weeks and highlighted cheekbones have been greatly favored. I may have even given the ‘strobing’ technique a whirl but *shhhh*, don’t tell my bronzers! To help me achieve the perfectly highlighted skin I have had my trusty Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette (here / review) by my side. This stunning complexion cheerleading quad is every highlight fan’s dream. The quality is absolutely incredible; the shades are stunning and not too glitter-laden, which is exactly what I’m after. See them all in action here. For blush, this will come as no surprise if you’ve been reading my blog for a while but Milani Luminouso (here / review) has been the one in July.  I’m sure you know how that goes… Beautiful ‘suite-everyone’ peach with golden shimmer running through, which warms things up and adds all the right amounts of glow to the skin. The formula is one of the best I’ve tried and it not only blends like a dream but also stays put for ages. It’s an oldie but a total goodie and if you can get your mitts on it do it asap!

Not being the biggest eye shadow wearer out there, I often just fancy sweeping some color all over my lid, blend in and head out the door. And when it comes to single shadows you can’t really beat Too Faced in my opinion and Copper Peony (here) is the living proof. It’s hands down the most beautiful copper shadow I own and the metallic finish is just to die for and ideal for this time of year. It warms up my complexion, enhances my tan and makes my green eyes pop in an instant. The creamy, easy-to-blend formula is a dream to apply and the shadow hangs around for some good eight hours with no creasing in sight. LOVE! Review and swatches are coming your way very soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
