If you are a regular down these parts, you would know that I am a massive fan of Lush skincare. Cleaners, moisturizers, toners – you name it. The latest addition to my stash, however, comes in the form of a mask. Meet Lush Mask of Magnaminty (here). By the time I got it I had no idea there are two versions of the mask, so without much thought I grabbed the Self-Preserving formula and without a doubt - I bloomin’ love it!
Both Mask of Magnaminty masks are basically deep cleansing clay masks that are supposed to work wonders on problematic skin. Even though my skin is not particularly problematic and I rarely breakout, I decided to give it a go. I mean everything that says ‘deep clean’ and ‘pore purifying’ on it I want in my life. The main difference between the regular and the Self-Preserving mask is obviously the fact that the latter is self-preserving. In our case that means that Lush use honey as the preservative, instead of parabens, which is fab.
I’ve done my research though and I found people saying that if you have oily, acne-prone skin you may want to opt for the original formula because it does a better job at dealing with breakouts. It has thicker formula that dries out the spots better and extracts the dirt from the pores better that the self-preserving one. I haven’t tried it, so I can’t comment on it but I thought this is worth mentioning.
As for my experience with the self-preserving formula of Mask of Magnaminty – I absolutely love it and it’s actually supposed to be better with people with sensitive skin. It has lots of honey in it, which helps soothe and soften the skin and my skin feels like baby’s bottom after I use it. The mask also has some peppermint oil in it, which I was scared might irritate my skin but it’s actually fine and it gives a lovely fresh, tingly sensation. The thing I also love about Mask of Magnaminty is the fact that it has finely milled ‘aduki beans’ (whatever these are hah) in it and it actually doubles as exfoliant.
I use the mask twice a week and leave it on for about 15 minutes. After I rinse it off my skin feels super soft and smooth, any redness I have is majorly reduced, my skin tone is even and my pores are clean and appear smaller. I’ve found that Mask of Magnaminty also helps with blackheads and since using it I break out even more rarely. It is so calming and hydrating and it balances out my skin beautifully and my T-zone is a bit less shiny. I’m in love!
The only down side to this mask is that it a bit messy to use. Because of the honey in it, it is rather sticky and it never dries out completely, so keep your hair away ladies! I use it in the shower and it’s all good. Apart from that though I have zero complaints and I would recommend it to anyone who fancies getting clearer, more even complexion. Mask of Magnaminty is a total winner in my books!
