10 Tips For A Great Beach Holiday

1. Stay hydrated.

Okay, we are stating the obvious here but drinking lots of water is always important, let alone whilst being in hotter climate. I know it’s easy to get carried away with drinking all the martinis when you’re on holiday and we often forget about water but you really don’t want to feel dizzy whilst sunbathing. Staying hydrated helps you adjust to the climate better and keeps the headache at bay as well. It’s a must!

2. Balance Out Your Diet

In an ideal world holiday calories wouldn’t count but unfortunately they do. I am such a foodie and I’m always up for eating all the burgers and fried squid but I think that moderation is key. I know how easy it is to overindulge in yummy desserts and sugary cocktails but think about the bloating the next day and feeling less confident waking around in your bikinis. It’s important to feel light, so maybe pack some healthy lunch when hitting the beach. Chances are there will be some fast food places there but having something more nutritious is always a good idea. Take some fruit or a healthy salad and give the fish and chips a miss. Another good idea is to share meals with people and that way you can try all the delicious food and cut the calories in half.

3. Stick With Your Exercise Routine

You probably had a strict workout routine and worked hard for that smokin’ beach body, so why not stick with it whilst you’re away? I know it is tempting to skip the morning exercise and have a lie in or head to the beach early to get as much tan as possible but staying in shape on holiday is important. It will be much easier for you to get back to your usual routine when you get home and will make you feel confident in your body when sunbathing. You don’t necessarily need to hit the hotel’s gym, you can also go for a run on the beach or do some yoga when admiring at the gorgeous sea views. Take your pick, pack your gym gear and stay in shape!

4. Satitize

That’s a step I never miss and I think it’s important to keep that germs at bay at all cost. You don’t want to end up being ill on holiday and there might not be sink and soap you can use, especially if you go exploring the nearby caves. I love the fresh and clean feeling that sanitizers give and they also smell incredible. I love all Bath & Body Works ones or if you can’t get your hands on them, then this one is a personal fave!

5. Have a Social Media Break

As a blogger I am always trying to stay up to date with all my comments and catch up with the latest updates of my favorite bloggers. I always have my camera with me, ready to take pretty images or Snap that very cute dog. But it is important to have a social media break every once in a while. I’m not saying to stop uploading pics of your latest meal or stop checking you Twitter but try to engage with conversions with the people you’re away with. Try to enjoy every moment more without thinking how many likes you got on that photo or tweet. Focus more on yourself and your loved ones – it is mind refreshing.

6. Don’t Forget Your Camera

As I said, I always have my camera on me and I just love taking beautiful snaps of everywhere I go. Not for social media, just for me to look back on. Creating memories and capturing them on camera is such a great thing and being the nostalgic person I am, looking back on old holiday photos makes me super happy. You can also use your phone of course but if you are like me you probably don’t have enough space on your phone (sort it out Appple!). Plus, the camera always gives better quality photos and I find it a lot more intimate and the photos won’t disappear in the sea of selfies and screenshots.

7. Take Reading Material

I’m quite a busy person and unfortunately I rarely find the time to read at home, so when I am on holiday I always check a lot of books off my reading list. I find reading at the beach the best way to relax and even if you don’t fancy reading a book, flipping though a magazine is always fun and a great way to unwind.

8. Protect Yourself From The Sun

Right, you’ve fake tanned and look all sorts of golden goddess-y but the fact that you have a beautiful tan base doesn’t mean you can’t burn in the sun. Quite the opposite actually. Slap some SPF on, reapply every few hours, put on your favorite shades, a hat and enjoy. You don’t want to end up looking like a lobster on your first day, am I right? Besides, if sunbathing and tanning is your thing, you can still get tanning oil, which will help you enhance your tan whilst still protecting you from the UV rays.

9. Take Care of Your Skin

My skin usually goes cray when I change climates, so sticking with my usual skincare routine is vital. I know it’s tempting to pick up tons of minis from the drugstore but changing your entire regime on holiday is not ideal. Makeup wipes wouldn’t really do the trick either. You need to make sure that you got all that build up sweat and SPF off your skin prior going to bed. Instead of getting all the samples just get some of those travel size toiletries containers and fill them with your tried and tested skincare bits.

10.  Relax & Don’t Touch Your Laptop

I like keeping busy and as a workaholic I know how tempting it is to check your emails or finish that report that you are working on at the office. It is, however, important you take some time off. The thought of all the work that’s waiting for me at home used to make me super anxious but after experiencing quite a serious burnout, I learned the importance of relaxing. Those emails can wait, they’ll still be there when you go home, so try not to stress about it and don’t feel guilty for taking time for yourself. Try to soak up the moment, finish that book that you’re reading, go for a swim or just enjoy the sun while sipping on Sangrias. Don’t ‘live for work’. Remember - it should be the other way around!

Why I Only Fake Tan & Products I Love

best fake tanning products

I love being tanned. I mean why won’t I? It makes me look slimmer, healthier and makes any imperfections less visible. It’s the ultimate confidence booster and if you’re a fellow pale gal you are probably on the same boat as me. Having said that, I definitely used to be one of those girls that would lie in the sun all day in the summer and then use sunbeds all winter long. And I wasn’t using much sun protection, or ever top it off during the day either. As I grew older though I’ve come to realize how silly and reckless I was with my skin. The side effects of sun /UV exposure are real, weather we want to acknowledge them or not.

Nowadays the pressure of looking like supermodels and ‘Instagram babes’ is exactly what makes some of us feel like we have to be tanned in order to be pretty. I’ve caught myself fall in that trap before and that is what’s made me book an appointment for the nearby tanning studio on a few occasions.

Trust me though, there are far better and healthier ways to achieve that beautiful golden goddess look. The damage of sun / UV exposure is just not worth it in my opinion. I really don’t want risking getting skin cancer or even just cause premature aging on my skin, so that’s why I always cover myself whilst I’m having fun in the sun, slather on SPF and just stick to fake tan.

The fake tan companies have upped their game drastically in the past few years and now we can get beautiful natural-looking golden glow without ending up looking like an Oompa Loompa. There are tons of fab products on the market, suited for all skin tones and since trying my fair share I narrowed my faves to 3 and here’s all you need to know about them:

Bondi Sands Tanning Foam in Dark (currently on sale here)

For all-over-the-body tanning, things don’t really get any better than this Bondi Sands foam. It gives the most natural sun kissed color I have ever seen in a fake tan before. No orange, just beautiful bronze and depending on the layers you go for (up to two) you can actually get it look really dark, which I love. Bondi Sands are now releasing an Ultra Dark version too, which I cannot wait to try as well! As for the application – I use this St. Tropez mitt and it literally takes me ten minutes to do all of my body. The good news is that the tan is not streaky, doesn’t accentuate dry patches and fades evenly. It lasts for about a week on me, which is rather impressive indeed. The Tanning Foam is one of the more affordable fake tans out there but don’t let that fool you – it’s seriously the best one I’ve tried and ticks all the boxes.

Sally Hansen Airbrushed Legs (here)

On days when I just want my limbs out I always opt for this godsend product. It’s basically like foundation for your legs – it adds beautiful golden color and hides any imperfections. If you are a fellow member of the random bruise crew – you *need* this in your life pronto! It takes me less than 3 minutes to do both my legs and I love how beautiful and even the finish is. Airbrushed Legs is also waterproof, so perfect for pool parties!

Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster (here)

I’ve spoken about this gem before and I still absolutely love everything about it. I know some people do it, but I personally never put body fake tan on my face – I’m just too scared it might break me out. So I opt for this self-tanning concentrate for the face by Clarins. I put a few drops in my evening moisturizer and apply all over my face and neck. In the morning I’m greeted by the most beautiful and healthy-looking sun-kissed golden glow. It’s even, non-streaky and there are no accentuated dry patches in sight. This has never irritated my skin as well and it’s a firm summertime essential.

Do you like to sunbathe or just stick with using fake tan? Which are your favorite tanning products?

New Design & New Beginnings

pigdig blog design

Hello there. Long time no see. It’s been over two months since my last post and I can’t actually believe how fast the time has flown by. In all honestly though, I needed this time. And all months before that where I was barely active on here. I know that you get that a lot from bloggers, it’s such a cliché but it’s true. In my case at least. Over the past year I feel like the blogging scene has changed a lot. All the negativity, the demand for better posts, better photography, greater personality, larger following… It was all too much at some point and couldn’t help but feel like I was not good enough. And it all made me fall out of love of blogging.

On top of that I was dealing with some stuff on personal level, which really only made things worse. My blog used to be the place where I could get away from everything and hide from reality but after that shift in the community it became a place that brought me nothing more than anxiety. And I needed a break.

At some point I didn’t even know if I ever wanted to press that ‘Publish ’button again. Oh do I miss how much more simple having a blog used to be! But things have changed and I better accept it. I had to remind myself why I started blogging in the first place. It wasn’t because of the freebies, the occasional sponsored posts, the number on likes on Instagram or the number of followers on Twitter. No. It was because I loved talking about the things I love and finding likeminded people with similar interests. And realizing that was the very moment that reminded me how much I actually used to love blogging. And it was the very reason for me to come back.

I have never been happier in my life as I am right now. I have never been more excited about the future and yes, I am still dealing with major anxiety but I am working on it. And I feel like I’m slowly but surely getting there. And in the meantime, I will be right here – chatting about my latest favorite lipstick or showing you my latest purchases. Boy, I missed this!

Since I decided it’s time for a big change, I felt like having a fresh start and having a new blog design were in order. I loved my old one but I feel like it was a bit dated and I personally felt like I needed something completely different to keep me inspired. The blogging designs have changed so much over the past year and I figured it was time I upgraded and made my blog more relevant. And this design by PipDig (here) is everything I wished for. I love how simple, yet up-to-date it is.

I adore the new ‘Categories’ feature, the Post Slider, which shows you my most recent posts and the Instagram bar right at the end of the blog is something I’ve always wanted to have. I am a huge perfectionist but I feel like this design has everything I ever wanted, and more. Big thanks to my lovely boyfriend who helped me set everything up and kept me sane in the moments when I felt like I made the biggest mistake by making such a drastic change lol.

Please let me know your thoughts on the new design and if I need to tweak anything to make RosyChicc look better! Your feedback is really important and I cannot wait to hear what you think!
Lost of love,
Andrea
